What is this website all about?
Tom Hanna’s website is geared towards politics. His greatest influences have been the great advocates of freedom and individualism, from John Locke to Thomas Jefferson, to Ronald Reagan. The topics on his website are a wide array of politics.
Design
The design of the website is rather simple. The design has no eye candy, or is not flashy like other websites. But, this doesn’t mean its a bad thing. In the end for the search engines, what matters is the content and not the visual appearance. And what matters for the readers is an easy to read website, with great value and content. I do think the website is doing a decent job with its current design.
Content
The content for this website is great. Why? Because it is unique. The content comes from an experienced individual in the area of politics.
Suggestions
I would suggest to tom to update more frequently on his website. Perhaps even 2 times per day would be great, or one time per day. The key is to be consistent. Politics is a hot topic, especially now more than ever, with the elections, and presidential elections coming up in the year.
I would also highly recommend to tom to try to leverage online videos. At least, one time per week try to make a video post, and upload the video to youtube. With politics being a hot topic, one great video, could generate tons of traffic to your website, and could build more credibility to you. I would suggest, if you do post videos, make sure on the blog post that you have text accompanied with it. Just an embeded youtube video post is not enough, and does not do any good for the search engines. Oh, and be sure not to forget to watermark the videos with your website url!
One other thing I noticed on tom’s website, is that he is losing valuable seo juice, with his current permalink setup. The default wordpress permalink setup, does not do much in terms of seo. Check out my quick wordpress optimization tip. If you’re current setup is working for you, then don’t change it. At this stage of your website, a big change like the permalink structure could potentially be seen as a bad thing for Google. So this advice is for future websites that centers around wordpress or uses it.
