It is a simple question really, do you have any bad computer Habits?
Do you always accidentally hit a wrong button on your keyboard that turns your computer to standby?
Do you lose patience with your computer, and simply pull that power cord to turn it off?
Whatever your bad computer habit is, leave your comment below, let’s hear it!

Well My bad computer habit is that I check my email too much. I will check it, and then 30 seconds later check it again! A waste of time
I’m a victim of this habit too. I have several email addresses that I check far too often. I’ve read “The 4 Hour Workweek, I know I’m only supposed to do it once in the afternoon and possibly once at night… I just can’t pull that off.
My bad habits include spending way too much time on the comptuter at all. Of course, I also will do stupid things, like hit alt-cntrl-delete 1x too often and reboot the whole computer LOL I don’t vacuum my computer out enough, so sometimes it runs really sluggishly. I let my toddler play with the dvd button (in - out - in - out) and today, he stood up and leaned on it while it was out, nearly snapping it off!
Well, I don’t have any of those habits myself, but my favorite is my friend who likes to slap (or kick) the side of his computer. I have no idea what he intends to accomplish, but I guess it makes him feel better.
My mom likes to curse and yell at hers. She totally doesn’t get that something going wrong on AOL has NOTHING to do with her machine directly.
And don’t try explaining it to her either. It just ‘does not compute’ for her.
Me, I type funny things consistently. I do a Semianr blog. See, did it again. I usually go back and fix it though.
I don’t hit the thing since I know a little bit about them - a two year degree in Electronics helps (i was trained to design computers!).
I DO save compulsively. Is that really a ‘bad habit’? I don’t really think so. Saving and locking car doors are my compulsive behaviors.
I suppose, when I DO hit that button by accident, and put it on “Standby” I’m so completely baffled, I just don’t even know what to do.
I DO spend most of my time here - I’ve decided to make it pay though so, hey, I’d be going to a real job otherwise (and probably work on a computer there!) so not a real biggie there - and I don’t have a commute by car any more! That’s a real help when it says $4.36, $4.46 & $4.56 at the corner for gas!!! I had a shock the other day when I did get out to run errands.
overall, not too, too bad…
Thanks for asking!

p.s. i turned off email completely so it doesn’t bug me so much anymore… just like Timothy Ferriss suggested! pam
I would have to say my one worst habit is fixing things that arent broken.
Being a geek I often try to enhance or better my computer and while sometimes it does work other times things can go terribly wrong.
I also like Dawn spend WAYYYYY to much time on my computer LOL.
But I am a geek so I can get away with it hehe.
lol I have the bad habit of trying to fix something that is not broke as well.
Like formating my computer, when It really wasn’t needed lol. And wasting a whole day because of it.
I wear bifocals. If I’m too close, I can’t see the screen clearly with my upper focal. If I’m too far, I can’t see the screen clearly with my lower focals. And if I’m at just the right distance, I can’t see the screen clearly with my glasses on at all! So I constantly look up, look down, move closer, move farther away, and take my glasses on and off
I have many do I have to list down all
. I will share few that I really make me loose my patience and due to which I loose some precious few minutes . Like bypassing the windows startup scan , hitting the insert key accidentally , pressing the windows key while playing games which causes me my life ( in game only
) and many more like this !
I think my worst computer habit is not appreciating the good times. Things are going great, I’m joyfully typing away but the second something goes wrong I’m upset and unforgivingly want to throw it out the window… there’s no fidelity. Another bad habit is leaving my computer by my bed at night. Instead of getting up and putting my laptop away, I will bend over and slide it somewhere under my bed or on the side. the problem is I have 3 kids and a dog and there’s always that chance that someone will spill something or chew it up. I really need to work on it.
Ugh.. don’t know any bad habits (well I see them as good habits lol), but here it goes:
- I always like something new, so I upgrade it on any first new update
- As per point above, I usually love to try beta applications, no matter how dangerous they may be
- Check my email every 5-10 minutes, especially since I’m active on Entrecard
- When I wake up in the morning, turning on my computer to drop entrecard and check on comments on my blog are the first two things that I do
Oh well
Whenever my computer is sluggish, I force my computer to respond with a “beep” sound by clicking on my desktop repeatedly. Aside from that I also tend to “kill off” programs when I don’t have the patience to wait. Lacking RAM in this computer sure sucks.
Lol. I used to accidentally press the power button in my keyboard instead of hitting the enter key
I seldom turn-off my computer properly. I just often hit the AVR off.
You have a power button to turn off your pc on your keyboard? Thats dangerous lol.
Not turning off the pc properly can hurt you though in the long run.
Yeah I have it.. beside the enter button and just above the up arrow key
not turning off the pc properly has been my habbit since before and haven’t experience anything bad yet (that’s for 5 years) but i do still sometimes turn it off properly but occasionally
I’d like to think that (other than being naked in front of the computer) I have no bad computer habits.
Occasionally I leave my external HDD on overnight, but it’s my habit to turn it off. Sometimes I forget. But not often.
Let’s see here, lots lots lots, well sometimes, I just hit that power button and my computer goes right off, losing what I was doing. Also, when I want to sleep it, sometimes I shut it down.
Bad Computer Habits? Leaving it on 24/7.
My computer bad habit is I always right click desktop screen—>refresh when it was laggy.
lol…i do this too!
I never turn it off. I put up tacky wallpapers. Sometimes I space out and close Firefox when I only wanted to close one tab. Luckily Firefox can just restart my previous session.
my brother has several bad habits
I save compulsively, but that’s probably a good habit. It just gets WTF when I try and save after rearranging folders on my desktop … lol.
I typo, and backspace, but then sometimes forget my finger is over backspace when I type again, and I might erase the same letter ten times before realizing my mistake.
I’m also very messy on my desktop - I really do use the desktop as the working space it was designed to be, instead of just a bunch of shortcuts. Downside is that it clogs up way too quickly with random pictures and text files and stuff.
Finally, I play around on blogs when I should be working :/

I will fall asleep infront of my computer sometimes
I ALWAYS hit the caps lock when reaching for the “a” key… i type in a hunt and peck way, but a lot faster than the normal hunt and peck… so yah, that’s a pretty bad habit cuz i never learned to type the real way….
My worst habit is opening and leaving to many windows open, eventually my computer gets slower and slower until sometimes I just shut the power off and then turn it back on again.
I also suffer from the email check thing. I even get nervous if i don’t check the email every 10 minutes.
I’m also a security freak. I have two anti-spywares running in my PC, plus the usual anti-virus, and firewall. But i have also a few more anti-spywares installed (4 of them), one anti-rootkit, another anti-virus, all ready to be used, when i think the PC is getting slower. All of them are put in action one time per week…
I think I am guilty of all of these : (
